Revelstoke sits in the midst of the unspoiled beauty of the Columbia River Valley. Situated between the Monashee and Selkirk Mountain Ranges, the area is a recreational paradise. Two of Canada’s most spectacular national parks are located nearby: Mount Revelstoke and Glacier. Rugged mountains, ancient glaciers, lush forests, crystal clear lakes, tumbling waterfalls, protected wildlife, birds and colorful wildflowers abound.

Revelstoke’s beginnings are anchored in the mid-1800s during the gold rush days along the Columbia River. At its peak, some 3,000 prospectors rushed to the area in search of gold. When the last spike of the Canadian Pacific Railway was driven in November, 1885 at Craigellachie, the railway’s regional headquarters was moved to Revelstoke. Previously known as Second Crossing and Farwell, the town was renamed in honor of Lord Revelstoke, who was instrumental in obtaining needed financing for the CPR during a critical phase in the construction of the railroad.

Few towns offer a broader variety of uncrowded adventure and vacation opportunities than Revelstoke: wildlife watching, cycling, snowmobiling, heli- and cat-skiing, field sports, golf, canoeing, boating, mountaineering, hiking, fishing, horse riding, air sports and year-round skiing are but a sample of the diversity you can find here. You may also want to stroll through downtown Revelstoke with its heritage buildings, interesting boutiques, shops and of course Grizzly Plaza, home to Canada’s largest sculpted grizzly bears.

Revelstoke features a great array of hotels, motels, inns, historic bed and breakfasts, campgrounds and lots of places to enjoy a delicious meal, and is unforgettably friendly. It is also home to three valley hot springs: Canyon, Halcyon and Nakusp Hot Springs, which can soothe and relax away travel fatigue. Winter is the time for fun in Revelstoke. This vacation land boasts the greatest amount of snowfall of any city on the Trans Canada Highway. Almost every winter sport available is enjoyed here. Mount Mackenzie, only three miles from city center, has ideal slopes for all ages and all ability levels.
