Situated at “the end of the road,” the District of Elkford is a picturesque Rocky Mountain town founded in 1971 as a home for miners working at Fording Coal Operations. Pristine wilderness is highlighted by proximity to Elk Lakes Provincial Park, Koko Claims snowmobiling area, world class fly-fishing on the Elk River, over 100 kilometres of trails leading to the vaulted limestone peaks of the Rocky Mountains and a full range of community recreational amenities usually only found in much larger cities.

The family-oriented Wild Cat Days festival in June celebrates the spirit of one of Elkord’s original homesteaders, Wildcat Charlie Weigert. The Winter in the Wild celebration showcases Elkford’s numerous winter recreation opportunities including fabulous skiing at Wapiti Ski Hill, which can receive 30 centimetres of fresh powder on any given day.
