Alaska Highway Signs

As travelers explore the Alaska Highway, they are bound to notice a few locations marked with strange signage posted by energy companies drilling for natural gas in Northeast BC. Near Mile 115 and 126, where the Alaska Highway intersects with long, dead end roads that head back into the bush, the signs appear as gaily competing mini billboards. Of special note is one spot at Mile 135 near Pink Mountain, where motorists are warned NOT TO STOP, due to the potentially deadly “sour gas” emissions from a well there with high Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) content.
